PRISMA — Finland

PRISMA, a Finnish supermarkets chain preparing to open its first Prisma store in the CIS region, engaged Awara IT to replace a fragmented Dynamics NAV landscape with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The goal was to give every store real-time access to a single finance and inventory database, automate IFRS reporting and deliver faster, more reliable analysis and forecasting for expansion decisions.
Awara IT implemented a pragmatic Business Central solution integrated with the existing POS and supplier networks, plus Power Platform analytics and automation. The result: unified master data across stores, a shorter financial close, automated IFRS outputs, and a scalable platform to support the CIS rollout while keeping compliance with Finnish reporting and e‑invoicing requirements.
PRISMA is a supermarkets chain headquartered in Finland (Western Europe). The company operates multiple store locations and central purchasing and finance functions and is preparing international expansion into the CIS region.
PRISMA’s legacy Microsoft Dynamics NAV instances were fragmented across regions and stores, with multiple databases and inconsistent master data. Store managers and finance teams lacked reliable, real‑time inventory and sales data, which delayed decision‑making and impaired pricing and replenishment agility during peak retail seasons. The fragmentation also complicated consolidated IFRS reporting and audit trails, requiring significant manual reconciliation each month.
The business needed a vendor‑grade upgrade path that preserved integrations with POS and supplier EDI, automated finance and IFRS outputs, and provided forecasting capabilities to evaluate new store performance in the CIS. Any solution had to minimize disruption to store operations and provide secure, role‑based access for local store teams and central finance users.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central was selected because it provides a supported upgrade path from Dynamics NAV, a unified cloud backbone for finance and supply chain, and built‑in capabilities for multi‑company and multi‑currency operations needed for the Finland-to-CIS expansion. Business Central’s native finance modules address IFRS requirements and reduce the need for heavy third‑party consolidation tools.
The Microsoft stack also enabled integration with Power BI and Power Platform for reporting and forecasting, and with Azure Active Directory for centralized identity and secure remote access for store teams. This combination met PRISMA’s criteria for scalability, vendor support, and minimal custom code to lower long‑term maintenance risk.
The implementation included Finnish localization for VAT handling, e‑invoicing formats used in Finland, statutory reporting templates and audit trails required by Finland’s tax authority. Business Central was configured for Finnish language preferences (Finnish/Swedish/English as needed) and fiscal calendar settings to match local accounting rules.
For the CIS expansion, the solution was implemented as a multi‑company tenant with configurable local ledgers and currency handling to accommodate cross‑border VAT rules and reporting variations. Where local statutory requirements differed, Awara IT prepared a compliance checklist and low‑impact configuration change path to minimize disruption when enabling country‑specific reporting.
By consolidating multiple NAV instances into a single Dynamics 365 Business Central tenant, PRISMA achieved consistent master data, reduced reconciliation work and shortened the financial close cycle. Automated IFRS outputs cut reporting preparation time by an order of magnitude, freeing finance staff to focus on analysis rather than data aggregation.
Operationally, real‑time visibility into inventory and sales across stores improved replenishment accuracy and reduced stockouts, supporting a controlled approach to opening the first Prisma store in the CIS. The solution’s low‑customization approach, combined with Power Platform analytics, provides a scalable, maintainable foundation for future store rollouts and continuous improvement.
"Awara IT delivered a pragmatic Business Central rollout that gave our stores and finance team a single source of truth. The implementation accelerated our reporting and made the CIS expansion decisionable with real data." — Sami Lahti, CFO, PRISMA
