ROYAL CANIN expanded sales and distribution into Kazakhstan and required full financial and logistics compliance with local regulations. The project focused on adapting Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to support Kazakhstan's mandatory e-invoicing and electronic waybill processes, a virtual warehouse model and finance-specific localizations to allow the business to operate without manual interventions or compliance risk.

Awara IT partnered with ROYAL CANIN to design and implement a Business Central localization that integrates directly with Kazakhstan’s state e-invoice system, automates invoice signing and tracking, and provides a virtual warehouse layer for cross-border logistics. The implementation delivered end-to-end automation of electronic documents, reduced manual workload in finance, and ensured audit-ready compliance for the new market entry.

ROYAL CANIN is a French manufacturer of cat and dog food entering the Kazakhstan market. As a process-manufacturing company expanding operations in the Middle East/Central Asia region, the company needed a localized finance and logistics platform to support legal compliance and day-to-day commercial operations.

Business challenge

Entering Kazakhstan exposed ROYAL CANIN to mandatory electronic invoicing and electronic waybill regulations that differ materially from EU practice. The company’s existing Business Central setup required adaptation of chart of accounts, tax posting logic, invoice lifecycle handling and document signing to meet local legal requirements. Manual workarounds were creating delays and compliance risk during go-live.

Operationally, the business needed a virtual warehouse capability to manage stock that crosses customs boundaries and to coordinate with local carriers. The finance team required real-time status of e-invoices (creation, signing, submission, acceptance) to reconcile receivables and report tax liabilities accurately. Failure to automate these flows risked processing delays, penalties and impaired cash flow visibility.

Why Dynamics 365 was selected

Business Central (Dynamics NAV/BC) was already ROYAL CANIN’s chosen ERP backbone and provided the necessary financial modules, inventory model and extensibility. Choosing Dynamics 365 Business Central localization minimized disruption to existing processes, preserved master data and reduced integration complexity compared with deploying a separate local ERP.

Dynamics 365’s extension model and Microsoft ecosystem (Azure and Power Platform) enabled Awara IT to implement secure API-based integrations with Kazakhstan’s state e-invoice portal, add electronic signing, and build Power Automate flows for status tracking without changing the core application logic. This approach kept the solution upgradeable and aligned with the client’s global IT standards.

Localization & compliance

The implementation delivered compliance with Kazakhstan’s e-invoicing and e-waybill legislation: electronic document formats, signing with a qualified e-signature, submission to the state portal and lifecycle status handling (accepted/rejected). Awara IT configured tax posting rules, withholding and VAT handling in Business Central and implemented the local chart of accounts and statutory reporting templates. The solution includes support for local languages (Russian/Kazakh) in user-facing documents and preserves audit logs and storage retention to meet local legal requirements.

Business value

The localized Dynamics 365 Business Central deployment removed compliance risk associated with Kazakhstan’s mandatory electronic document flows and reduced the finance team’s manual workload. Automation of e-invoicing and waybills improved cash flow visibility and shortened administrative cycles, enabling ROYAL CANIN to operate the new market with a controlled cost base.

Operationally, the virtual warehouse and integrations improved logistics coordination with carriers and customs, reducing delays in distribution. The extension-based approach preserved upgradeability of Business Central, giving ROYAL CANIN a maintainable, audit-ready platform to scale further in the region.
