Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation for Enapter

Enapter, a rapidly scaling manufacturer of hydrogen electrolyzers, required a unified business and operations platform to support expansion across Germany and Italy. Awara IT led a combined ERP and Azure Digital Twins initiative that paired Dynamics 365 Business Central with Azure IoT services and Power BI to provide a single source of truth for finance, procurement and operations while enabling real-time asset insights from field devices.

The project delivered faster financial closes, standardized multi-country processes and a Digital Twin proof of concept that enabled early anomaly detection on electrolyzer fleets. The result: tighter budgeting and procurement cycles, accelerated country rollouts, and the operational telemetry Enapter needed to move from reactive maintenance to data-driven uptime management.

Client / Industry / Country

Enapter is a Western Europe-based company in the green energy sector, developing and manufacturing hydrogen electrolyzers. The engagement covered operations in Germany and Italy and focused on scaling finance, procurement and operations systems to sustain rapid commercial growth across those markets.

Business challenge

Enapter was growing sales and deployments across multiple countries but relied on fragmented systems: spreadsheets for budgeting, separate procurement tools, and no integrated ERP for statutory reporting. Finance lacked consolidated, auditable ledgers across Germany and Italy, which increased month-end effort and delayed decision-making.

Operationally, Enapter needed actionable telemetry from electrolyzers in the field to reduce downtime and avoid costly service interventions. The company required a scalable template for rapid country rollouts, local tax compliance, and a platform that could integrate IoT telemetry with business processes (service, spare parts, warranty and billing). Time-to-value and minimal disruption to manufacturing and delivery schedules were critical triggers for selecting a partner and platform.

Why Dynamics 365 was selected

Dynamics 365 Business Central was selected because it provides a cloud-first, modular ERP that supports finance, procurement, sales and inventory within a single tenant—reducing integration complexity and accelerating statutory reporting across EU jurisdictions. Business Central's extensibility and Microsoft ecosystem compatibility made it a pragmatic choice for a company already leveraging Azure services.

Modules implemented

  • Finance & General Ledger
  • Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
  • Sales Order Management
  • Procurement
  • Inventory & Warehouse Management
  • Basic Manufacturing / Production Orders
  • Budgeting and Cost Center Reporting
  • Power BI reporting & dashboards

Integrations

  • Azure Digital Twins (asset models for electrolyzers)
  • Azure IoT Central (device telemetry inlet)
  • Azure Anomaly Detector (predictive alerts)
  • Power BI (operational & financial dashboards)
  • Azure Functions / Logic Apps (integration middleware)
  • SEPA banking / payment file export

Localization & compliance

The implementation addressed local tax and statutory requirements for both Italy and Germany. For Italy, the solution included support for electronic invoicing (SDI) formats and Italian tax posting groups; for Germany, VAT posting and local statutory reporting templates were configured. Business Central's language packs and a harmonized chart of accounts were applied to enable consistent consolidated reporting. The project also enforced EU data protection and GDPR best practices through Azure tenant configuration and role-based access controls.

Business value

The combined Business Central and Azure Digital Twins solution provided Enapter with a unified finance and operations backbone plus actionable operational telemetry. Finance benefited from automated postings, consolidated reporting and faster closes, enabling more timely budgeting and capital allocation decisions. Procurement and inventory workflows became auditable and repeatable, reducing lead times for parts and improving fulfilment predictability.

Operationally, the Digital Twin proof of concept delivered early detection of atypical device behavior and reduced mean-time-to-repair. This improved service efficiency and lowered field intervention costs. The template approach to multi-country rollouts shortens time-to-market for new subsidiaries and ensures consistent statutory compliance across EU jurisdictions.
