Modernizing Magticom’s P&L with Power BI and Power Platform

Modernizing Magticom’s P&L with Power BI and Power Platform

Magticom, Georgia’s largest mobile operator, relied on manual processes to assemble monthly profit & loss statements. Report preparation routinely took days, required multiple restarts when new data arrived, and produced inconsistent outputs across finance and management teams. The company needed a fast, auditable way to automate calculations, standardize report layouts for printing, and give business users self-service access to validated financial views.

Awara IT implemented a focused Power Platform solution centered on Microsoft Power BI Service and Paginated Reports. In three weeks the team delivered interactive dashboards, print-ready paginated reports, and a compact mapping table engine to formalize calculation rules. The outcome: consistent P&L outputs, a reduction in preparation time from days to hours, and over 100 active users accessing the reports securely across the organization.

Client / Industry / Country

Magticom is the largest mobile operator in Georgia (IT/Telecom). The company serves a national customer base and handles large volumes of billing and financial data across commercial, network, and finance domains.

Business challenge

The finance organization prepared profit & loss statements through a largely manual process: analysts collected extracts from multiple systems, applied transformations in spreadsheets, and reassembled outputs for managers. When late-arriving data appeared — for example, billing corrections or adjusted interconnect charges — the process had to be restarted, causing multi-day delays and versioning confusion.

Reports were not standardized for printing or formal distribution, complicating statutory submissions and board reporting. The lack of a centralized calculation engine meant business rules lived in ad-hoc spreadsheets, increasing risk of error and making audit trails difficult. Magticom needed an auditable, repeatable reporting process that could scale with data volumes and preserve the organization’s existing Microsoft stack investments.

Why Dynamics 365 was selected

Magticom run a Microsoft-centric environment and favored solutions that integrate with Microsoft 365, Azure, and the Power Platform. Power BI was chosen because it provides the required combination of enterprise data modelling, scheduled refresh, and Power BI Paginated Reports for print-ready outputs — all within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Awara IT, a Microsoft Dynamics 365 partner, recommended the Power Platform approach to leverage existing identity, governance, and licensing models. The team prioritized minimal disruption to current systems, rapid delivery, and a solution that could be extended later to consume Dynamics 365 or other Microsoft data sources if Magticom expands its ERP footprint.

Modules implemented

  • Power BI Service: interactive dashboards and scheduled refresh
  • Power BI Desktop: semantic data model and measures
  • Power BI Paginated Reports: print-optimized P&L and statutory layouts
  • Power BI Dataflows / Power Query: ETL for source harmonization
  • Azure SQL (configuration store): mapping table and rules engine for calculations
  • Power Platform components: automation for data refresh and distribution

Integrations

  • Core billing and mediation extracts (flat files and SQL feeds)
  • Financial general ledger exports (CSV/SQL)
  • Corporate data warehouse layer (staging to Azure SQL)
  • Azure Active Directory for SSO and role-based access
  • Email distribution and PDF export for paginated report delivery

Localization & compliance

Reports and models were localized for Georgia-specific requirements: currency display in Georgian Lari (GEL), regional date formats, and print layouts aligned with local statutory reporting expectations. The solution preserves an auditable trail of calculation logic in the mapping table, which supports reconciliation and external audit queries.

Data residency and governance were addressed by deploying configuration and staging data into Azure resources aligned with Magticom’s policies. Access controls were implemented through Azure AD group assignments to meet internal security and compliance requirements.

Business value

The implementation converted a brittle, manual reporting process into a governed, auditable analytics service. Finance can now generate consistent P&L statements rapidly, freeing analyst time for variance analysis instead of assembly. Management receives timely, printable reports for board and statutory use, and IT maintains a single model and ruleset for future changes.

Because the solution uses Power BI and Power Platform components, Magticom gains a scalable foundation for additional analytics use cases. The centralized mapping table makes calculation changes transparent and reduces audit friction, while scheduled refresh and on-demand reports reduce operational risk associated with late-arriving data.

Awara IT delivered a focused, practical solution that turned our days-long P&L cycle into a reliable process we can run on demand. The mapping table and paginated reports solved our audit and printing needs quickly. — Levan Beridze, CFO
