Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation for LEGO Kazakhstan

LEGO opened its first store in Mega Mall Kazakhstan and required a compliant, end-to-end retail ERP to run finance, purchasing, stock and point-of-sale processes from day one. Awara IT implemented a localized Dynamics 365 Business Central solution integrated with LS Retail to support the store opening and provide a repeatable template for regional expansion to Azerbaijan.

The project focused on rapid, auditable finance and bank handling, automated purchase-to-pay and sales-to-stock flows, and real-time inventory visibility tied to LS Retail POS. The result was a production-ready Business Central setup that met Kazakhstan statutory requirements, reduced manual reconciliations and shortened the finance close cycle—enabling the LEGO store team to focus on operations rather than workaround processes.

Client / Industry / Country

LEGO — global toy retailer operating branded Lego Stores. Project scope covered the retailer's first store in Kazakhstan with localization and readiness for expansion into Azerbaijan. Scale: single-store rollout with regional reporting and corporate consolidation considerations.

Business challenge

LEGO needed a compliant and operational ERP in a compressed timeline to support the store opening in Mega Mall. Core pain points included a lack of localized chart of accounts and tax configurations for Kazakhstan, manual bank reconciliation processes, and absence of automated purchase-to-pay workflows. The retailer required fast, auditable finance processes from the first day of trading.

Operationally, the store required integrated stock management with LS Retail POS to avoid sell-through discrepancies and manual end-of-day uploads. Additional challenges included handling local currency (KZT), multi-language labels (Russian/Kazakh), and ensuring that bank file formats and statutory reporting met local legal requirements. The client had an existing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central landscape but required localization and retail integration expertise to go live quickly and correctly.

Why Dynamics 365 was selected

Dynamics 365 Business Central was chosen because LEGO's IT landscape already included NAV/BC knowledge and the product provides integrated finance, inventory and warehouse capabilities that align with retail store operations. Business Central's extensibility and localization model allowed Awara IT to configure statutory reports, tax codes and local bank interfaces while preserving standard upgrade paths.

Critically, Business Central integrates well with LS Retail and Microsoft 365, enabling seamless POS synchronization, role-based access, and Power Platform reporting. Awara IT's experience with BC, retail integrations and Kazakhstan compliance made Business Central the pragmatic choice to minimize customizations while delivering a scalable template for Azerbaijan and other regional sites.

Localization & compliance

Awara IT configured a Kazakhstan-localized chart of accounts, VAT codes, currency settings (KZT) and statutory reports required by local tax authorities. Local language labels and user roles were implemented to support the store team in Russian and Kazakh. Bank statement import formats and electronic payment files were created to align with the local banking providers used by LEGO.

The implementation included readiness steps for Azerbaijan (currency and tax code templates) so the solution can be extended with minimal effort. All localization work followed Business Central best practices to preserve upgradability and provide auditable records for tax and regulatory inspections.

Business value

The implementation provided LEGO with a compliant, auditable finance and retail platform from go-live, reducing manual effort in accounting and materially shortening the finance close cycle. Operationally, the LS Retail—Business Central integration eliminated end-of-day reconciliation work, improved inventory accuracy and reduced stockouts, supporting a consistent customer experience from day one.

The delivered localization and configurable templates mean LEGO can replicate the setup for Azerbaijan and other regional stores without redoing core compliance work. Overall, the project lowered operational risk for a time-sensitive store opening and delivered a maintainable, Microsoft-aligned platform for ongoing retail operations.
